Multi-Agency Vital Information Sharing (MAVIS)
M.A.V.I.S is a quick way to find out who else is working with the same child or young person, making it easier to deliver more coordinated support.
This database will be available to authorised staff who need it to do their jobs. It is a key part of the Every Child Matters agenda to improve outcomes for children and a pre-runner for ContactPoint.
What is M.A.V.I.S?
The M.A.V.I.S (Multi-Agency Vital Information Sharing) database is a log of CAF completed CAFs in Hampshire. It is designed as a precursor to ContactPoint, the government’s national Information Sharing Index, and serves as a local information sharing point for practitioners.

What information can I obtain from M.A.V.I.S?
In accordance with good information sharing practice, the M.A.V.I.S Database can give the following information:
Whether or not a Completed CAF exists for a child or young person.
If a CAF is completed, who the Lead Professional is and their contact details.
If the child is known to social care, who the allocated Social Worker is.
Please note that M.A.V.I.S can only provide information on CAFs where appropriate permission to share has been granted.
When should I contact M.A.V.I.S?
You should contact M.A.V.I.S in the first instance that you believe a child or young person has additional needs. It is useful to refer to the Hampshire CAF Operation Flowchart, which is available from your CAF Advisor or Locality Team.
This means before you start completing a CAF.
What information should I have in-hand when I make an enquiry?
Before contacting M.A.V.I.S, please have the following information ready:
- Your agency or organisation's contact details including name, telephone number*, address and postcode
- The name of the child or young person for which you have identified additional needs.
- The date of birth of the child or young person.
* In compliance with the Data Protection Act (1998), you must provide a telephone number linked to a landline.
What should I expect when I phone M.A.V.I.S?
When contacting M.A.V.I.S you can expect the following:
- The M.A.V.I.S Administrator will take your contact details and the details of the child or young person for whom you are making the enquiry.
- Before searching the database, the M.A.V.I.S Administrator will conduct a security check. If the Administrator cannot verify your identity in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998), they may have to take further steps. For Example, they may speak to your Line Manager or Supervisor to ascertain you are able to access this information.
- The security check and database search will be done ‘offline’. Once both are complete, the M.A.V.I.S Administrator will ring you back with the results of the security check and database search. Barring difficulties, you should expect a returned call within 15 minutes of making your request.
What do I submit to M.A.V.I.S and when?
A copy of every CAF, Detailed Action Plan and Review Form you complete should be submitted to M.A.V.I.S. Follow these steps:
