Social care
Social care is one of the major public service areas. In England, the responsibility to provide social care services rests principally with local councils. At any one time, up to 1.5 million of the most vulnerable people in society are relying on social workers and support staff for help. Currently modernising social services in conjunction with the NHS is a national priority.
Social care covers a wide range of services, which are provided by local authorities and the independent sector and includes:
- Care at home
- Day Centres
- Adoption and Fostering services.
- Child protection
- Family/parental support
- Looked after children
- Meals on wheels to the elderly
- Respite care
- Residential/Nursing homes
- Therapeutic work with children & families
