Emotional, behavioural and mental health needs
What is mental health?
Mentally healthy children and young people have a healthy balance of behaviours, emotions, social relationships and physical well-being.
They are able to be happy with themselves, make and keep friends, feel safe and learn new skills.
Sometimes there may be an imbalance in well-being and the child or young person may have difficulty coping with some situations and stop enjoying everyday living.
To worry about things is part of everyday life but mental health problems are not just a passing phase. They can interfere with a person’s life and can include depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorders. If you think your child is suffering from mental health problems and needs professional help, firstly speak to your doctor who will be able to discuss the options available.
The Hampshire's CAMHS Trust (HCT) provides support for children and young people aged 18 or under, who have emotional, behavioural and mental health problems.
