Somewhere to live

Finding somewhere to live can be difficult. Don’t expect emergency accommodation to be of a high standard – it really is for emergencies only.

If you are under 16, Social Services have a duty to provide emergency accommodation for you. This may be with a family or in a hostel, B&B or similar. So dont spend the night in the cold!

During office hours (8.30am - 4.30pm) you should contact your nearest Social Services Area Office and ask to speak to the duty social worker. At all other times - all through the night, at weekends and over Bank Holidays - you should contact the Social Services Emergency Service: 0845 600 4555.

Local councils have a duty to help with emergency accommodation for over 16’s – the amount of help varies from council to council but may only be the telephone numbers of the nearest night shelter or homeless shelter.

You will probably have little choice in where you can go and will usually have to make your own way there. When you really can’t find anywhere else to stay, and for more housing information go to the Housing and Support in Hampshire website.
